So this DIY string tripod video will show you how you can make your very own string tripod (or image stabilizer) for your camera with just a few dollars. In situations where you do not have access to an actual tripod, a string tripod is a good alternative. It is important to note that there are advantages and disadvantages to using a string tripod –
Advantages of a string tripod
- Inexpensive to make
- Can be made quite quickly
- Easy to store and portable – fits into your pocket
- Much lighter than a real tripod
- Can be used in areas where tripods are banned such as museums
Disadvantages of a string tripod
- It is not as steady as an actual tripod
- Predominantly reduces vertical camera shake movement only
- May get tangled or break/snap
What you need to make a string tripod
- Bolt 1 1/4″ diameter
- Nylon string (one that doesn’t stretch) – Length of the string should be approximately your height
- Washer
